Data Protection-compliant Hybrid Work Thanks to deviceTRUST
The best possible protection for the health and data of those insured with IKK Südwest.
With the onset of the pandemic, IKK Südwest faced the challenge of creating hybrid work
environments for its approximately 1,500 employees within just a few weeks, ensuring the
protection of sensitive, personal health data.
Working efficiently in compliance with regulatory requirements
As an innovative and modern health insurer, IKK Südwest serves more than 635,000 people. The guild health insurance fund focuses on the best possible insurance protection for the health of its insured. As contact persons, the employees are available daily on site, via telephone or digitally, so that access to secure workspaces is essential.
Ensuring this data protection-compliant and efficient IT infrastructure has been a priority for the Head of IT Service – Thomas Schäfer – and his team, but not only since the onset of the pandemic. Because dealing with the sensitive, personal health data of the insured requires specialized handling and increases the requirements for IT security.
New work environments required new IT security measures
While most of the employees at IKK Südwest used the company network to access their workspaces prior to the pandemic, Thomas Schäfer needed to find a solution within just a few days to give employees access to applications and resources if they wanted to access them from their private devices. It was important not only to meet the internal requirements for IT security, but also those of the Independent Data Protection Center Saarland.
Thomas Schäfer became aware of the software solution thanks to an already successful deviceTRUST implementation in a company in the same industry. Thus, after the first contact, an intensive test phase could be initiated in a very short time to check the requirements that IKK Südwest had for deviceTRUST.
Thanks to deviceTRUST, we were able to quickly and effectively meet the requirements for our IT security that arose from the challenges of hybrid working environments

deviceTRUST as a reliable, invisible partner
IKK Südwest currently uses deviceTRUST as an invisible security layer on the private devices of its employees and also on the mobile devices with the IGEL OS that will be used in the future, thus supplementing its Zero Trust strategy with an additional security factor. This ensures that employees can only access data and resources if the defined context is correct.
The big advantage, right from the start, was the quick and easy implementation of deviceTRUST, as well as its easy handling and configuration.
The configuration and integration of deviceTRUST ran smoothly and we were able to do it by ourselves and quickly
